PHILADELPHIA - Swimming and Diving coach Matt Nunnally is currently serving as the U.S. Lifesaving Association National Team coach as the squad competes at the World Lifesaving Championships in Alexandria, Egypt over the next two weeks.
Over 3,000 athletes from 50 nations will compete in the event, which runs from October 2-17, 2010.
Nunnally, along with fellow coach Tom McGibney, lead a team of six men and women into the competition. After nine events, the U.S. team currently sits in 17th place.
While this is his first year as a U.S. coach at the World Championships, Nunnally competed in the World Championships in 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2008 as a member of the National Team.
A standout lifeguard, Nunnally most recently captured a National Lifesaving championship in Ft. Lauderdale, FL in 2009. He had previously won three titles.
