Rowing Opens Fall Season at Navy Day Regatta

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle crew opened its 2010-11 season on Saturday as the Explorers rowed in the annual Navy Day Regatta on the Schuylkill River. The men's novice four boat led all Explorer boats with a fourth place finish in its race.

The novice four finished the course in 15:51.62, just behind two Navy boats and a Penn boat. The Explorers edged out Saint Joseph's by less than two seconds. The Navy 'A' boat won the 14-boat race with a time of 14:44.24.

Also finishing in the top half of its race was the women's novice eight boat. The Explorers finished fifth out of 10 boats in the race with a time of 16:31.45. Penn took first, followed by Drexel, Saint Joseph's, Army and the Explorers.

The Explorers entered seven more boats in the regatta on Saturday, including the men's and women's varsity fours, men's novice eight, men's JV eight, women's novice four and both the men's and women's varsity eights.

The men's varsity four clocked a 15:21.00 for 14th out of 24 boats and the women finished in 17:52.87 for ninth out of 13.

The men's varsity eight also finished in the top 20 out of 27 boats, clocking a 13:47.46 for 18th.

The Explorers return to the water on Oct. 23, when the men compete at the Head of the Charles in Boston, MA.
