Swimming & Diving Grabs Eight Medals On Day One Of Frank Elm Super Splash

New Brunswick, NJ - The Explorers had a strong first day of competition at the Frank Elm Super Splash held at the Rutgers Aquatic Center in New Jersey.  Full results, as well as real-time results throughout the meet, can be found here.

Both the men's and women's 200-free and 400-medley relay squads medaled.

The 200-free team of Holly Biro, Alex Stoddart, Katie Snee and Liz Jordan came in second (1:35.64), while the men's squad of Austin Thomas, Dave Derr, Kyle Goan and Edward Carnes placed third (1:23.51) in the event.

Jessica Carbin, Jordan, Jessica Simunek and Biro led the women's 400-medley team to a third-place finish (3:51.88).  The men came in second in the event (3:25.00) behind performances by Carnes, Blase Szyszko, Charlie Zettel and Thomas.

In the individual events, Emily Heath clocked a fifth-place time in the 500-free finals (4:59.46).

La Salle stacked the men's 500-free finals, with Zach Anderson, Sean McCall, Brian Batson and Greg Fischer all qualifying.  Anderson came in third (4:37.82), while McCall finished fourth (4:38.42). Batson (4:39.37) and Fischer (4:40.44) registered sixth and seventh-place finishes, respectively.

After posting the fastest qualifying time in the men's 200-IM, Zettel claimed second in the finals (1:53.37).  Tom Lawrie finished sixth (1:56.38).

Biro took second in the women's 50-free finals (23.83), while Snee placed eighth (24.52) in the same event.

In the men's 50-free, Thomas finished third in the finals (20.81) and Kyle Goan took fifth (21.28).

Competition will resume Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m.
