New Brunswick, NJ - Blase Szyszko and Austin Thomas each won their respective events and the men’s 800-free relay took also finished on top as the Explorers continued competition at the Frank Elm Super Splash.
Szyszko posted the fastest qualifying time and then won the 100-breast (56.93), while Thomas finished on top in the 100-fly (49.55), besting second-place Shinta Noguchi of Fordham by over a second. Thomas' time in the 100-fly breaks La Salle's school record set in 1992 by Wayne Snellgrove (49.68).
Edward Carnes, Greg Fischer and Charlie Zettel placed fourth, sixth and eighth in the 100-fly, respectively.
The men’s 800-free team of Zach Anderson, Brian Batson, Cameron Cabrera and Sean McCall clocked a time of 6:49.99 to win the event.
Zettel finished fourth in the 400-IM finals (4.06.11).
In the men’s 200-free, McCall (1:43.63), Dan Fitzgerald (1:43.87) and Batson (1:44.28) took sixth, seventh and eighth places.
In the 100-back finals, Dave Derr notched a fourth-place finish (51.49), while Carnes came in fifth (52.42) and Fitzgerald took eighth (54.74).
The Explorers also finished second in the 200-medley relay (1:33.48).
On the women’s side, Jessica Carbin (57.98) and Alex Stoddart (58.18) took fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 100-back finals.
Holly Biro took sixth in the 200-free finals (1:55.62). In the women’s 100-breast, Jess Simunek placed fifth (1:05.44).
The women’s 200-medley relay finished in second (1:46.94).
La Salle will wrap up competition at the meet tomorrow.
