Getting To Know: Swimming & Diving's Jordan Baker

Nov. 30, 2010

PHILADELPHIA - The GoExplorers.com "Getting to Know" series checks in with junior diver Jordan Baker.  The native of Canada has led the Explorers on the diving board this season, picking up two first-place finishes in both the one-meter and three-meter events.

What has been your favorite moment as a La Salle student-athlete? My favorite part of being a La Salle athlete is being able to join a group of individuals that share a passion for the same sport, while being able to juggle studies as well.

How did you start diving? When I moved with my family from British Columbia to Alberta I realized that I enjoyed hockey but I wanted something different.  The secretary of my new school happened to be the president of the club in that town, so here I am.

What do you like to do in your spare time? I listern to a lot of music and when I am home I like to spend time with my family and friends.

What are your career aspirations? I would like to eventually work in Currency Exchange.

If you could spend a day with any one person, who would it be and why? Rob Dyrdek because he is an incredibly driven individual who loves to just make work fun.

What’s on your iPod right now? Currently I am listening to “The Avett Brothers”, but I’m also into “Old Crow Medicine Show,” “Kay Kay and his Weathered Underground,” “Dr. Dog (from Philly),”  “Sufjan Stevens,”  “Deadmau5e,” “City and Colour” and “Easy Star All Starts.”  And this it just from today. 16G just doesn’t seem to be enough room for my different tastes in music!

What is your best away meet memory? Freshman year at the Bucknell invitational, I walked in with no expectations, just confidence, and I ended off walking away with 1st place. Another memory is making Zones this year at Villanova. Making Zones was one of my four year goals and I finally accomplished it.

What is the best advice you have ever received? You know what you are capable of, now it's time to show everyone else.

Favorites:

Sports team? Vancouver Canucks

Movie? Boondock Saints

Food? Steak and stuffed potatoes

TV Show? Sons of Anarchy or Dexter

Vacation Spot? Salmon Arm in British Columbia, Canada

Final words: If you have a chance to buy a classic car, do it! They are a money pit, but the bond and time you spend working on it is totally worth it.  I'm working on a 1972 Datsun 240z with my father right now.
