Richter Named La Salle Student-Athlete of the Month For October

Nov. 4, 2010

PHILADELPHIA - Senior men's soccer player Ryan Richter has been named the La Salle Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of October, based on a vote by the Office of Athletic Communications.

Richter had a stellar October, leading the Explorers to a 5-2-1 record during the month including a current 4-2-1 Atlantic 10 record. The senior has been the catalyst of the Explorer offense, racking up 22 points so far this season on 10 goals and two assists. He leads the Atlantic 10 Conference in points, goals, game-winning goals (5) and shots (75). The 2009 Soccer Six Player of the Year is also atop the city standings in those categories as well.

Richter has led the squad to its current standing of fourth in the Atlantic 10 and in position for a potential A-10 Tournament berth. He registered four game-winning goals in the month of October, kicked off by a 1-0 win over Temple to open the month. In all, he has five game winners, including a Sept. 29 win at Saint Joseph's. On Oct. 8, Richter punched in both goals in a 2-1 win over Fordham in the Atlantic 10 opener to give the Explorers a three-game winning streak.

Richter also knocked in both goals in a 2-0 shutout of George Washington, the second game of the current four-game unbeaten streak, followed by the game winner in the team's 4-2 victory at Rhode Island last Friday.

He rounded out the month with a helper on Jeff Pio's goal in a 1-1 double overtime tie at 2007 College Cup participant Massachusetts.

For his efforts this season both on the field and in the classroom, Richter earned his second CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honor. With the First Team honor, he moves on to the national Academic All-America ballot.

Richter and the rest of the Explorers return home on Friday (11/5), looking to punch their ticket to the 2010 Atlantic 10 Tournament. They host Xavier on Friday at 3:00 PM, followed by Dayton on Sunday at 1:00 PM.
