La Salle sophomore Aaric Murray had a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while fifth-year senior Ruben Guillandeaux added 17 to lead the Explorers to a 70-57 victory over Philadelphia University on Sunday at Tom Gola Arena.
Murray showed why he was a preseason All-Atlantic 10 Third Team selection against the Rams, a NCAA Division II Sweet Sixteen program a year ago. He shot 7-for-15 from the floor in 37 minutes and added three blocked shots.
Guillandeaux also looked good after missing 26 games last season. He connected on a trio of three-pointers and had 10 of his points in the second stanza. Guillandeaux added five a team-high assists and five boards.
Freshman Sam Mills added 11 points and senior Steve Weingarten had 10 to join Murray and Guillandeaux in double-figures.
La Salle raced to a 10-2 lead after four minutes and the advantage reached double-digits midway through the first half. It would remain at least a 10 point lead the rest of the contest, stretching to as many as 20.
The Explorers shot 54% (13-for-24) in the first half on their way to a 39-24 lead at the break.
PhilaU, which played at Boston College in an exhibition yesterday, was led by Nick Christian's 13 points and Corey Francisco's 12. Ola Sasona and Temi Adebayo each had nine rebounds.
La Salle will host Columbia on Friday at 7 PM in the season opener.
