The Explorers tip off for the second time in as many days as they take on the Liberty Flames in the 2:30 PM consolation game of the Terrapin Classic.
Ebonee Jones posted a career- and game-high 18 points on Tuesday in the Explorers' 83-45 loss to No. 18/20 Maryland behind 6-for-7 shooting from the free throw line and two treys. She also grabbed nine rebounds to come one shy of a double-double. Ashley Gale added 14 points, seven of those in the first five minutes of the second stanza. Defensively, Jess Koci pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
Gale leads the Explorers with 14.7 points per game, while Koci upped her rebounding average to a team-best 8.5 boards per game.
Liberty Flames (4-7)
Conference: Big South
The Flames enter today's contest with an identical 4-7 record after falling to No. 17/17 St. John's 81-66 in the opening round of the Terrapin Classic. They got off to a hot start, leading the Red Storm by three at the half before ultimately falling.
Three Flames scored in double figures against the Red Storm, led by LaKendra Washington and Danika Dale's 13 points apiece while Devon Brown added 11. The Flames owned the boards, outrebounding their top 20 opponent by 25 (40-25).
Brown leads the squad with 11.0 points over the four games she has played. Jelena Antic averages 9.9 and Avery Warley rounds out the top three with an 8.5 points per game scoring clip. Warley also pulls down a team-best 7.3 boards per game.
The Series:
Wednesday marks the first-ever meeting of the Explorers and the Flames and only the third time the Explorers have played a current Big South member. The Explorers are 2-0 all-time over the Big South, topping Radford twice with the last meeting coming in 2008. The Flames are 6-22 against current Atlantic 10 members, with their most recent A-10 matchup being a 45-38 win over Richmond in 2008.
