PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle indoor track and field teams kicked off their 2010-11 season on Friday evening at the Jack Pyrah Invitational held at Haverford College's Alumni Fieldhouse. The annual meet featured athletes from nine area colleges.
Freshmen Dan Galeano and Steve Kandetzke led the Explorer effort on Friday night as both captured bronze medal finishes in their respective events. Galeano led a duo of runners in the 500 meters, placing third with a time of 1:07.06. Patrick Ayling was also in the race, finishing in the top 10 with a time of 1:10.33.
Kandetzke also led a pair of runners in the 800 meters, clocking 2:01.24 for third place. Classmate Chris Pane posted a top seven finish with a mark of 2:04.46.
Rashad Little led a trio of top 15 finishers in the 300 meter dash, clocking 36.33 for eighth place out of 46 runners. Jerome Brown ran a 36.88 for 13th and Santiago Galeano placed 15th with a 36.98. Justin Fowler was also in the race, finishing 25th with a time of 37.75.
Brown also led the Explorers in the 55 meter dash, placing 11th out of 28 with a time of 6.75.
Marcus Coleman paced the Explorer field squad, placing in the top half (8th out of 17) in the long jump with a mark of 5.80 meters.
On the women's side, Shanice Johnson also led the field squad in the long jump with an eighth place finish out of 15 jumpers with a 4.87 meter mark.
Lolita Thomas led the women's runners with a top 25 finish in the 300 meters. She clocked a 44.63 for 25th out of 44 runners, while Saba Battles-Williams was just behind in 26th with a 44.67 in her first collegiate meet.
Rookie Tori Pisco clocked a 1:22.52 for 12th in the 500 meters, also in her first collegiate meet. She led a trio of Explorer women in that race, with Kathryn Rodgers (15th; 1:24.02) and Karim Brooks (16th; 1:24.29) also competing in the 500.
A trio of Explorer women also competed in the 55 meter dash. Kyla Jones led with a time of 7.72 for 20th, while Battles-Williams clocked a 7.84 and Johnson ran a 7.90 for 23rd and 26th, respectively.
