La Salle Explorers (11-15, 3-9) / Conference: Atlantic 10

With just four games remaining on the slate for the La Salle Explorers, the team will face off against the George Washington Colonials in Washington D.C. at the Charles E. Smith Center on Wednesday.

Still missing three vital players, seniors Ruben Guillandeaux, Kimmani Barrett, and Yves Mekongo, the Explorers will play only seven scholarship players in the contest. The three injured players have a combined 2,839 points, as well as a combined 1,240 rebounds, in their careers.

In their last appearance, the Explorers dropped a hard fought home loss to the Bonnies of St. Bonaventure on Sunday afternoon. Junior Steve Weingarten posted career numbers as he posted 18 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in the contest, the most rebounds since Rasual Butler posted 20 versus Morris Brown University on Nov. 18, 2002. The game was also the second time this season that two Explorers recorded double-double numbers, as junior Jerrell Williams tallied 14 boards and 13 points.

On Feb. 18 at Dayton, senior Rodney Green passed Randy Woods to snag the number nine spot on La Salle’s all-time scoring list. After the most recent game versus St. Bonaventure, Green has scored a total of 1,830 points. He is currently trailing Kareem Townes by only 95 points for eighth all-time.

George Washington Colonials (14-11, 4-8) / Conference: Atlantic 10

The Colonials are returning home to take on the Explorers after a down to the wire finish with the No. 25 Richmond Spiders this weekend. The Colonials ended up losing the contest 74-70 on Sunday despite an exciting finish, being within two points in the final minute of the game.

The game saw 15 lead changes and 10 ties as freshman Lasan Kromah racked up 25 points, a career high. On Monday, Kromah was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for his effort.

This season, the Colonials have beaten Massachusetts, Fordham, and St. Louis in A-10 play, providing a 4-8 conference record. George Washington is led in the point column by senior Damian Hollis who has posted 343 points on the season, an average of 13.7 ppg. He is closely followed by Kromah, who sits in the second spot, with 299 points.

The Series

Every game in this final stretch of the season is pivotal for the Explorers, as well as the Colonials. These two teams, along with St. Bonaventure, Massachusetts and Saint Joseph’s, are in a close battle for the final spots in the Atlantic 10 Tournament bracket, making every game more important than the last.

In a 59-year history, the two teams have met a total of 27 times. George Washington has won a majority of the contests, but it was the Explorers who claimed a one-point victory back on Jan. 13 at Tom Gola Arena.
