PHILADELPHIA – For the second straight week and third time this season, La Salle Lacrosse has had multiple players named to the Atlantic 10 Conference’s weekly honor roll. This week, senior Dorothy Schalleur (Drexel Hill, PA/ Upper Darby) was named Defensive Player of the Week while freshman Lauren McDermott (Lansdale, PA/ North Penn) was tabbed the conference’s Rookie of the Week.
Schalleur picked up the award after her best defensive outing of the season on Saturday at Le Moyne. In La Salle’s effort that forced the Dolphins into overtime, Schalleur picked up six ground balls and caused five turnovers, which is the most in a game by any La Salle player this season for both categories. For the season, Schalleur has scooped up nine ground balls and has caused the second-most turnovers on the team with 11.
McDermott received her first conference recognition following an eight-point week, as she scored six goals and dished out two assists, while also controlling the draw four times. Last Wednesday at Villanova, McDermott had a game-high and a career-high six-point night in La Salle’s 13-11 victory over the Wildcats. In Saturday’s game at Le Moyne, she continued her production by putting up two goals, one of which tied the game at 10 a piece to force overtime, ultimately helping the Explorers erase a four-goal deficit. McDermott currently has the third-most goals on the team with 15 and leads the team with 14 draw controls.
La Salle's latest conference award winners will get their first chances to defend their recognition on Friday when the team hosts St. Bonaventure in its first A-10 Conference game of the season. The draw is set for 6:30 p.m. at McCarthy Stadium.
