Women's Rowing Set For Atlantic 10 Championship

April 15, 2010

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle women's rowing team is set for competition as the Explorers head to the Atlantic 10 Championship on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, NJ, this Saturday. The first race is set to launch at 8:00 AM.

The Explorers will row three boats on Saturday - the varsity eight, second varsity eight and novice four. The first heat of the varsity eight is scheduled for 8:00 AM and the second varsity eight heats start at 8:20 AM. The novice four boat's final will take place at 12:30 PM.

The novice fours have seen success in the weeks leading up to the championship. Just last weekend, they advanced to the grand final at the Knecht Cup after winning their semifinal and placing second in the first round.

They also raced in the grand final at the Murphy Cup two weeks ago where they placed fifth, advancing to the grand final via a third place finish in the heat round.

The varsity eight also has a gold medal under its belt from the Frostbite Regatta in November. The second varsity eight boat will be competing for just the second time this season as the Explorers placed third in its race at the quad meet against Saint Joseph's, Drexel and Delaware.

The Explorers also return 2009 Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honoree Lauren O'Donnell, who earned conference honors in just her first year of rowing last year.

Massachusetts claimed last year's Atlantic 10 title, its 13th out of 14 possible titles, followed by Rhode Island and Saint Joseph's. In addition to those three schools, Dayton, Duquesne, Fordham, George Washington and Temple will also be competing.
