PHILADELPHIA - While the women were competing in the Atlantic 10 Championship, the La Salle men's rowing team spent Saturday on the Schuylkill River competing in the 44th Annual Kerr Cup Regatta. On a windy, slightly overcast day, the Explorers claimed the Dr. Thomas Kerr Cup, while the novice fours also won their race. The pairs boat placed second in their race.

La Salle's varsity eight of coxswain Keith Ferguson, Ian DiMatteo, Brett Kader, Matt Wiedemer, Michael Hopp, Andrew Weeks, Joe Hughes, Giovanni Finazzo and Max Orenstein clocked a 6:02.3 to win the cup. Fordham was second with a time of 6:05.58 and Army came in third with a 6:15.50.

In the men's novice four race, the Explorers captured first place with a time of 7:02.9. The boat consisted of coxswain George McBlane, Matt Schluckebier, Pat McElroy, Nick Dillon and Jack Rosenthal. Army's 'A' boat placed second in 7:07.37 and Drexel came in third with a time of 7:19.71.

The La Salle men's pair was also in action. Tom Apicella and Kevin North rowed a 7:52.4 to place second out of three in their race. Drexel won in 7:11.4 and Philadelphia University placed third with a time of 8:14.18.

La Salle returns to action on Saturday, April 24, when it competes in the Bergen Cup on the Schuylkill River.
