Mekongo Nominated For Wanamaker Award; Voting Ends April 26

PHILADELPHIA - Senior men's basketball player Yves Mekongo is one of nine finalists for the John Wanamaker Athletic Award, which is presented annually to the "athlete or team that has done the most to reflect credit upon Philadelphia and their team or sport" during the past year. Mekongo is a two-time CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America selection, including first team honors this season. A three-time Academic All-Atlantic 10 pick, he was named the A-10 Student-Athlete of the Year in 2009-10.

The Philadelphia Big 5 Sportsmanship Award winner, he scored 1,014 points in his career. He is a three-time NACDA I-AAA Scholar Athlete Team honoree.

He is joined on the ballot by the Philadelphia Phillies, Drexel's Gabriela Marginean, the Philadelphia Eagles' DeSean Jackson, Villanova's Scottie Reynolds, Villanova Football, the Philadelphia Flyers' Chris Pronger, Temple Men's Basketball and Temple Football.

Voting ends April 26. Help the Philadelphia Sports Congress select the 2010 winner by voting and enter to win a pair of tickets to one of the following: USA vs. Turkey Soccer on May 29 and/or the 2010 AT&T National Golf Tournament on July 3.
