La Salle currently leads the conference with four Atlantic 10 Student-Athletes of the Year as women's lacrosse senior Jill Davis, swimmer Shannon Duval, men's basketball player Yves Mekongo and women's basketball player Morgan Robertson have all earned the awards in 2009-10. The Explorers also have an A-10 best three rookies of the year.
A first team all-conference selection, Davis led the Explorers in goals (40), assists (14) and points (54) while carrying a 4.0 grade point average as an elementary/special education major. She leads the A-10 in game-winning goals (four) and is fourth in points per game (3.53). Davis is also a two-time Academic All-Atlantic 10 selection and helped the Explorers to a program-best five conference wins this season.
Duval earns the honor following a stellar season in which she won two gold medals at the 2010 Atlantic 10 Championship. She captured the conference titles in both the 100- and 200- yard breaststroke events and owns nine school records. A native of Trinadad and Tobago, Duval is a three-time Academic All-Atlantic 10 selection with a 3.81 GPA as an accounting major.
Mekongo received CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America first-team distinction. The senior forward from Elizabeth, N.J., boasts a 3.81 grade point average while majoring in Integrated Science, Business & Technology. A second-team Academic All-American a year ago, Mekongo averaged 11.0 points and finished his career with 1,014 points.
Robertson earned the honor after leading the Explorers in points (10.1) and rebounds (5.8) per game and posting a 3.89 grade point average with a dual major in psychology and political science. A two-time, Academic All-Atlantic 10 selection, she joined Mekongo on the NACDA I-AAA Scholar-Athlete and the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First Teams.
La Salle also has three Atlantic 10 Rookies of the Year in Rebecca Chylack (field hockey), Tom Lawrie (men's swimming) and Lauren McDermott (women's lacrosse).
A Freshman All-American by womensfieldhockey.com, Chylack led the Explorers in goals (11), shots (64), game-winning goals (three) and defensive saves (three). She also tied junior Beth Carey for the team lead in points (25).
Freshman Tom Lawrie earned a silver medal in the 400 yard individual medley with a time of 3:59.29 in the final and won the B-final of the 200 back with a time of 1:51.18.
McDermott was second on the team in goals (34) and points (39). She earned A-10 Rookie of the Week honors three times this season and was named the womenslacrosse.com national rookie of the week on Wednesday. The Lansdale, PA product is ranked fourth for most points and goals scored in a rookie season at La Salle.
