PHILADELPHIA - Sophomores Dave Hausherr and Samantha Gallagher have been voted the La Salle Student-Athletes of the Week, based on a vote by the Office of Athletic Communications.
The pair put together terrific performances at last weekend's ECAC and IC4A Championships, held at Princeton University. Hausherr captured the IC4A title in the 10,000 meter race, running a season-best 30:35.51 and outrunning Duke's Josh Brewer by 2.5 seconds.
Hausherr ran with the lead pack for the majority of the race before taking the lead for good with just over half a mile remaining. His IC4A title comes in just his first year at the championship, as he is a redshirt freshman.
Gallagher ran a record-breaking race in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, breaking her own school record by five seconds in posting a 10:26.17. She finished fifth in a very fast race that saw the nation's third-best time. Gallagher ranks 14th in the NCAA East Region and 33rd in the nation with her time.
This marks the second time this season that Gallagher has set a new steeplechase record. She broke the eight-year-old record of 10:48.41 set in 2002 by Solomiya Login with a 10:31.05 at the Stanford Invitational in late March.
