Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle softball team wrapped up the final road series on Sunday, dropping both ends of a doubleheader at rival Temple. The Owls won game one 6-0 before a 3-1 score in the nightcap.

Temple jumped on the board in the bottom of the first with a solo home run by Christina Sykora and added two more in the third on a Danielle Fagan two-run home run. Three more runs in the bottom of the fourth put the game out of reach.

Mary Pat Conville doubled to left field to lead off the fourth inning and break up a no-hit bid by Owl pitcher Kristen Marris. Erica Vile led off with a single in the seventh and reached third base on a subsequent walk and passed ball, but the Explorers could not capitalize.

Laura Beth McCreesh was credited with the loss in the circle, going 3.1 innings and striking out four while giving up six runs (five earned) on five hits. DJ Guinn pitched the remaining 2.2 innings, limiting the Owls to just one hit in that span and striking out three. Marris earned the win for the Owls, going 5.1 innings and limiting Explorer bats to one hit. Lauren Spoo came in to relieve for 1.1 innings, giving up one hit.

Game two remained scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when the Owls scored one unearned run. They added two more in the fifth. The Explorers got on the board in the top of the seventh when Breanna DiTommaso doubled in Guinn, who reached on a walk earlier in the inning.

Gina Massaro hurled a complete game with 52 of her 69 pitches going for strikes. She gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits, struck out three and walked one. Marris worked again for the Owls, earning the complete game win. She gave up one run on four hits, struck out 10 and walked four.

The Explorers return home next weekend when they host St. Bonaventure in a single game on Friday (5/7) at 3:00 PM and on Saturday (5/8) at noon. The team's five seniors will be honored in a pre-game ceremony on Saturday.
