PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle men's Novice 4 boat advanced to the grand final to lead the Explorers at the historic Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River on Saturday. The conclusion of Dad Vails marks the end of a successful season for the rising La Salle rowing team.
The crews faced strong winds on the Schuylkill, which forced the compression of the racing schedule.
The men's Novice 4 won its semifinal heat by four seconds to advance to the final, where they placed sixth. The Explorers clocked a winning time of 6:49.708 in the semi, beating out second-place Bowdoin which rowed a 6:53.586. Rounding out the semifinal results were Georgia Tech, Penn State, Carnegie Mellon and Charleston College.
The Novice 4 rowed a 7:18.854 in the grand final to place sixth. Temple won with a time of 6:54.940.
The men's Varsity 8 was also in action, coming in fourth in the semifinal to advance to the petite final. The Explorers rowed a 6:24.109, edging Florida by four-tenths of a second. They placed sixth in the petite final with a time of 7:25.146.
Saturday's competition wrapped up the season. The Explorers return in October for the fall racing season. Stay tuned here on GoExplorers.com for upcoming schedule information for the 2010-11 season.
