PHILADELPHIA - La Salle rising sophomore Alfredo Santana ran his way to fourth place in the 5,000 meter race at the USA Track & Field Junior National Championship at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, on Thursday night.
Santana, running unattached, clocked a 14:45.39 to place fourth out of 15 runners. He was less than four seconds off of the medal stand, finishing just behind Georgetown's Andrew Springer (14:41.78). Portland's Trevor Dunbar won in 14:34.63 with NC State's Andrew Colley in second with a time of 14:37.28.
Also competing at Junior Nationals was fellow rising sophomore Joe Beveridge. Beveridge clocked a 15:47.71 to finish 15th.
One more Explorer has yet to compete, as Paul Reilly will run the 1,500 meter race at 12:15 PM Central time.
