McPeak Named La Salle Student-Athlete of the Month For May

June 4, 2010

PHILADELPHIA - With two Atlantic 10 titles in hand and a strong performance at the IC4A Championship, sophomore Terence McPeak was voted the La Salle Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of May.

McPeak kicked off the month by anchoring the 4x800 relay team that set new school-, conference-, and facility- records at the Atlantic 10 Championship. He helped the squad to a time of 7:23.95 to capture the Atlantic 10 title. The time bested the previous conference record of 7:28.10, set by Saint Joseph's at the 2009 championship. The previous school record of 7:25.58 was also beat, which was a record that McPeak had a hand in as well at the 2009 IC4A Championship. The time also set a new UMass facility record.

The following day, McPeak earned individual gold, capturing the Atlantic 10 title in the 800 meter run. He clocked an IC4A-qualifying time of 1:51.59, beating out Fordham's Brian Schmidt by .24 second.

In the last regular season meet at Swarthmore on May 10, McPeak clocked a fifth place time of 1:51.82 in a field of 68 runners looking to qualify for postseason meets.

Later in the week, McPeak ran the third leg of the Explorers' 4x800 squad at the IC4A Championship at Princeton, helping the squad to a time of 7:33.11 to qualify for the IC4A final. In the prelim, they place second in Heat 5 and ninth overall.

McPeak anchored the relay in the final, helping the team to a fifth place finish with a time of 7:27.31. The fifth place finish garnered the Explorers points in the standings, and behind the 4x800 plus Dave Hausherr and Tyler Jones' 10K runs, the Explorers finished 17th among 55 scoring teams.

The Explorers return to action when several team members head to the USA Senior/Junior Nationals in Iowa on June 23.
