PHILADELPHIA, PA - Tom Leonard (`70) and Wade Brosius (`88) have agreed to serve as co-chairs for the annual Explorer Club Fall Auction to be held September 18, 2010 in Gola Arena.
This will be the eighth year for this special event. Donations to the Explorer Club and proceeds from the auction go directly to support student-athletes competing in 22 varsity sports at La Salle University.
Speaking after a meeting where Explorer Club members were joined by faculty and staff from almost all divisions of the University at Hayman Center on Wednesday night, July 14th Co-Chair Leonard spoke about the continued growth of the event,
"It's just an honor to be asked to help coordinate this fantastic event which does so much good for the young men and women who represent La Salle. It provides a wonderful social event for everyone - whether they are directly affiliated with the athletic department or they work on campus or even if they have no connection to La Salle at all," said Leonard who is retired after a 38 year career as partner with Price Waterhouse Coopers.
Co-chair Brosius, who along with wife and fellow alum Gretchen ('88), have been loyal and enthusiastic participants at the auction which gives them firsthand experience to join the leadership team,
"We absolutely love this event. Each year it is a weekend that Gretchen and I make it a point to plan for and spend in the city," said Brosius. "There is something available for everyone. The food and drink is spectacular, the items up for auction are excellent, the entire event is free of charge and it is a great chance to mingle and network with a wide range of people."
Brosius discussed some of plans for the upcoming auction. "we have two major goals for this event and one doesn't really outweigh the other; provide a festive and exciting social event for the entire university community and beyond and raise money to support our student athletes. This year we have already agreed on a number of big changes to enhance the flow of the event and provide an opportunity for everyone in the event to walk away with something no matter what level of giving they can afford. We are excited about the changes we have already planned and just got about a dozen more ideas from the meeting."
"It's a pretty simple concept," Leonard said bluntly. "If you have any interest in La Salle athletics you have got to be at this event. If you like having a good time among friends . . . you have got to be at this event. We look forward to seeing many friends on September 18th."
