PHILADELPHIA - Rising junior Meghan Lutz earned distinction on the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team, announced on Wednesday.
Lutz is one of nine Atlantic 10 women to earn the honor and is among the 551 honorees nationwide. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or participated in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships (including preliminary rounds) in their respective event.
Lutz finished 25th in the East Region 10K at the NCAA Preliminary Round in May with a time of 36:19.78. She was the second Atlantic 10 runner to cross the finish line, and had entered the meet ranked 48th in the region.
Lutz clocked a season-best and ECAC-qualifying 10K time of 35:40.87 as she finished in the top 10 at the Penn Relays in April, and followed up the next week with a fourth place finish at the Atlantic 10 Championship.
During the indoor season, Lutz qualified for ECAC's in the 5K with a season-best 17:32.57.
Lutz is a standout in the classroom as well, compiling a 3.63 grade point average in the Elementary and Special Education major.
Joining Lutz on the All-Academic Team from the Atlantic 10 are: Kerri Gallagher and Brigid Moriarty from Fordham; Ashley Cattran from Dayton; Shayna Daugherty and Ananda Fraser from Rhode Island; Dana Guglielmo, Meaghan McGovern and Julie Rechel from Richmond.
