PHILADELPHIA -
Recent La Salle graduate Rodney Green has signed with 2010 Israeli Premier League champion Galil Gilboa, it was announced today. After a busy June and July working out for NBA teams and participating in the Orlando Pro Summer League for the Boston Celtics, Green has signed a contract to play overseas.
"Playing professional basketball was always the goal after graduating," said Green. "I have been training and conditioning to prepare myself for the next level. I look forward to contributing for Galil Gilboa in the Israeli Premier League and Euroleague next season."
Green, a 6'5 point guard with great ball handling experience earned the reputation as a versatile player with a complete offensive game. He finished his illustrious LaSalle playing career with 1,914 points, 618 rebounds, 390 assists and 185 steals. His accolades include back-to-back all Big 5 First Team and All Atlantic 10 Second Team selections for the 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 seasons.
He led the team in points, assists and steals his junior and senior campaigns, averaging 17.8 ppg, 5 rpg, 3.4 apg, and 1.9 spg his junior year, and 18.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 4.3 apg, and 1.6 spg his senior season.
By winning the Israeli Premier League this past season, Galil Gilboa has qualified to play in Euroleague for the 2010-11 season. Coach Lior Lubin expects Rodney to take the reins as a starter when he joins the team, an unusual and impressive accomplishment for a rookie.
Despite the confidence his new team has in his abilities, Rodney knows he still has a lot to prove, "I am joining a team of champions, and will need to work hard to earn the respect of my teammates. Whatever they need, I'm their guy."
