Dolhansky Picks Up A-10 Rookie Nod

Aug. 24, 2010

NEWPORT NEWS, VA - La Salle Women's Soccer freshman Anna Dolhansky was named the Atlantic 10 Conference's Rookie of the Week following the first weekend of competition of the 2010 season.

Dolhansky became the first freshman Explorer in 10 years to record at least three points in her first career game as she had a goal and an assist in La Salle's 5-0 victory over Canisius, Sunday. The other was Krista Lee, who had two goals in the La Salle's opener in 2000.

Her first collegiate point came on the second goal of the afternoon as Dolhansky found Leigh Gray for a 2-0 lead after just six minutes of action. The midfielder from Blackwood, NJ gave the Explorers a 3-0 lead scoring her first career goal at the 27:18 mark of the first half.

With the goal and assist, Dolhansky became the first freshman at La Salle in the program's 25-year history to register both (a goal and an assist) in the season opener.

Dolhansky is now the 10th freshman at La Salle to earn an A-10 Rookie of the Week nod, while three of them (Amy Schneider, 1999; Lee, 2000; and Dana O'Brien, 2008) went on to earn at least one more.

Dayton's Colleen Williams was named the A-10's Player of the Week after having a hand in all three goals tallying five points on two goals and an assist in leading the Flyers to a pair of wins to open their 2010 campaign.

La Salle (1-0) returns to action this upcoming weekend, taking part in the TD Bank Tournament in Burlington, VT. They face New Hampshire on Friday at 1 PM and then take on the host Vermont on Sunday at 1:30 PM.
