Junior Lindsay Fry scored the game-winner in the 73rd minute to propel La Salle to a 2-1 overtime win over host Robert Morris on Saturday. The Explorers controlled play, outshooting the Colonials, 23-9, and holding a 14-6 advantage in corners but needed the extra period for the victory.
"I am very pleased with the way we competed and played today," head coach Michelle Marks said. "The team demonstrated a lot of maturity and composure. We made smart decisions on the ball and played with a lot of heart and never gave up. It feels great to get a win under our belt. It was a great team effort."
Fry's goal ended a flurry of action late in the game for the visitors. La Salle had four shots in the final four minutes of regulation, including three off penalty corners.
In overtime, the Explorers had two shots in the first 90 seconds but a goalkeeper save and defensive save kept the game tied. Sophomore Rebecca Chylack got a shot off after a corner at the 72:16 mark and Fry was able to find the back of the cage during a penalty shot eight seconds later for the victory.
Senior Emma Ruth recorded three saves in the cage for the win. Stephanie Steeley made 11 stops for RMU.
La Salle (1-3) took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute when freshman Mariel Papa crossed the ball to sophomore Maddie Doub, who scored the first goal of the game.
Robert Morris (2-3) tied the game in the 46th minute on a goal by Chantele Crow.
The Explorers remain at Robert Morris on Sunday for a game against Appalachian State at noon.
