MEMPHIS - The Explorers dropped their final two matches at the Memphis Invitational, falling in straight sets to Memphis (13-25, 13-25, 19-25) and losing to Tennessee State (28-30, 21-25, 20-25, 13-25).
Breanna Mazalewski, with 29 digs on the weekend, was named to the All-Tournament team for La Salle.
Kelly Scanlon, who added a double double in La Salle's victory over St. Francis on Tuesday, tallied another one in the loss to Tennessee State with 14 kills and 17 digs.
Tennessee State outlasted the Explorers to win the first set, 30-28.
La Salle had a match point at 24-22, but three straight Tennessee State points gave the Tigers a 25-24 edge. After four ties, Tennessee State finally emerged with the win.
La Salle held a late 18-16 lead in the second set before the Tigers rallied for the 25-21 win.
In the third set, La Salle took a 15-14 lead off a Scanlon kill set up by Kourtney Clark and wouldn't trail again en route to winning the set. The Explorers went on a 6-2 run to end the frame and force a fourth set.
A 10-0 Tigers run in the fourth set put the frame and the match out of reach for the Blue and Gold.
Clark, who broke into the top ten all-time at La Salle in career assists earlier in the week, added 36 assists on the match. Mazalewski and Samantha Tulskie had 16 and 11 digs, respectively. For the Tigers, Shaquita Williams led all attackers with 16 kills.
Earlier in the day, the Explorers fell to Memphis. They dropped the first two sets by a score of 13-25. La Salle held a 19-18 lead in the third set before a 6-1 run by the Tigers sealed the match.
Scanlon again led La Salle with seven kills. Clark has 20 assists and Mazalewski led the defense with 11 digs. Altrese Hawkins contributed 15 kills for Memphis and Holly Fong has 23 assists.
The Explorers have a week off of competition before they take part in the Lafayette Invitational next weekend.
