Explorer Club Board of Directors Convene to Discuss Upcoming Auction, Future Planning

Sept. 2, 2010

PHILADELPHIA – During an active Tuesday night on campus, with the Welcome Barbecue taking place, Women’s Soccer hosting Lafayette and the Volleyball squad facing off versus Rider, the Explorer Club Board of Directors met in the Faculty Dining Room overlooking McCarthy Stadium to discuss upcoming events and strategies for the 2010-11 athletic seasons. Items discussed during the session ranged from the Explorer Club Auction to engaging more students into attending and showing their support at La Salle athletic sporting events.

Newly appointed Explorer Club President, Dennis Reid, ’70, began the meeting by expressing his appreciation to Athletic Director Dr. Tom Brennan for the opportunity to lead the booster organization. In addition to Reid speaking to fellow Explorer Club members, Brennan encouraged the group to continue their level of activity by attending events, meetings and games. Brennan also conveyed to board members that their support is appreciated, but to constantly try and do more.

Kale Beers, ’95, Explorer Club Executive Director and Associate Athletic Director, introduced new strategies that will be implemented into events this year to the crowd consisting of Explorer Club Board Members, coaches and administrative staff. Beers explained the importance of bringing new faces to events, such as the auction, and attempting to attract more people to become involved with La Salle Athletics.

The fourth speaker during the meeting communicated the importance of abiding by the rules produced by the NCAA. Mary Ellen Wydan, Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance/Senior Woman Administrator, took the floor to educate and remind the attendees the importance to always check with the Compliance Office before boosters take any action. Wydan spoke in regards to doing things the right way and making sure the boosters know to contact her if they have any questions or concerns.
