NEWPORT NEWS, VA - La Salle Women's Soccer freshman forward Renee Washington was named the Atlantic 10 Conference's Rookie of the Week after helping the Explorers to a 1-1 week with a goal and a pair of assists.

She started the week assisting on the Explorers' lone goal in a 3-1 defeat at Lehigh Friday night, which was the first of her collegiate career.

The Pennington, NJ native quickly added another helper to her totals, Sunday afternoon, on Erin Brennan's second tally of the contest in the 48th minute, which turned out to be the game winner, in the 4-1 victory at Saint Joseph's.

In the fourth straight win over the city-rival Hawks, Washington capped the day with her team-leading seventh goal of the season, putting the ball in the back of the net with just under six minutes remaining.

Washington is currently third in both points (16) and goals (7) in the A-10 for overall players, and first in both categories among freshmen.

In the 16 years La Salle has been a member of the A-10 Conference, only two times have Explorer teammates earned A-10 Rookie of the Week honors in the same season. The first time was during the 2000 campaign, when Lara Wean and Amy Schneider were each honored, and this season, as Washington now joins Anna Dolhansky.

La Salle (6-4-1) will begin A-10 play this weekend, as the Explorers take a trip to western Ohio. They start with a game Friday night at Xavier, which starts at 7 PM, then take on Dayton on Sunday at 1 PM.
