Georgetown scored two goals in the final four minutes of play to break a 4-4 tie and secure a 6-4 victory over La Salle on Saturday afternoon on the campus of American University. Senior Rachel Deaner and sophomore Maddie Doub each scored their first collegiate goals.
The Hoyas, which remain undefeated at 3-0, scored in the second minute when Kimberly Keating found the back of the cage. La Salle bounced back when senior Beth Carey scored her first goal of the season in the fourth minute.
A goal by sophomore Rebecca Chylack in the 25th minute off a corner put the visitors ahead, 2-1. Carey and sophomore Janel Paukovits had the assists.
Georgetown scored the final two goals of the first half and added another shortly into the second frame to take a 4-2 lead. But the Explorers came charging back to tie the score.
Deaner, a defender, tallied her first collegiate goal off a cross from sophomore Neelam Kumar in the 50th minute and Doub scored five minutes later to tie the score.
It appeared that game was heading into overtime until the Hoyas' Catharine Shugrue scored with 3:09 remaining. Georgetown added another score with 1:37 left for insurance.
Georgetown held a 15-14 advantage in shots while La Salle had a 9-4 lead in corners.
Senior Emma Ruth made two saves for LU, while Briana Periera made four stops for GU.
La Salle (0-2) returns to action on Wednesday at Towson.
