After playing seven straight road games, the women’s basketball team will return to Tom Gola Arena to host Saint Louis on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. It will be the Explorers’ first home game since December 19, 2010, a 78-58 win over Rider.
La Salle (4-12, 0-2) and Saint Louis (6-11, 0-2) both come into the contest looking for their first Atlantic 10 win. The Explorers dropped their first two conference games to Fordham and St. Bonaventure, while the Billikens have lost to Saint Joseph’s and Dayton so far this season.
The Explorers look to even their record all-time against Saint Louis. Currently the Billikens hold a 2-3 game edge after defeating La Salle 62-51 at the Chaifetz Arena last season.
During La Salle’s last game against St. Bonaventure, sophomore Alexis Scott made her first appearance since being sidelined with an injury during the Explorers’ November 22nd contest against Oral Roberts. Scott poured in 15 points and a team-high and personal season-high seven rebounds. Before her injury, Scott was averaging 11 points and four rebounds per game.
Senior Ashley Gale paces the Explorers in scoring with 17.5 points per game, good for fourth in the A-10, and leads the A-10 in three pointers made with 52 on the year.
The Billiken team features a balanced scoring attack, with senior Lauren Wood leading the squad with 10.9 points per game. Saint Louis averages 58.5 points per game as a team; the Explorers are 2-3 this season when holding a team to under 60 points.
The battle of the boards could be a key to the game. Freshman Jess Koci and Saint Louis’ Lorreal Jones sit fifth and sixth in the conference in rebounding average, with 7.7 and 7.6, respectively. Each have posted five double-figure rebounding games this season.
