Explorers Head To Palestra For Big 5 Showdown Against Penn

The women’s basketball squad will head across town to the Palestra tomorrow evening to face Big 5 Opponent Penn.  Tip is set for 7:00 p.m.

La Salle holds a 32-5 all-time record against the Quakers and has won the last five meetings between the two squads.  Last year, the Blue and Gold notched a 67-51 victory at the Tom Gola Arena.

 

Penn is 0-2 in Big 5 play this season, while the Explorers are 0-1. Each team dropped a game against Villanova and the Quakers have lost 60-45 to Saint Joseph’s.

 

The Explorers enter the contest after an 82-77 Atlantic 10 victory over Saint Louis over the weekend.  Senior Ashley Gale led La Salle with 21 points, sophomore Alexis Scott netted a season-high 20 points and senior Chelsea Conner added a career-high 15 points, as well as a career-high four blocks.

 

La Salle led the Billikens at the break and wouldn’t give up the lead in the second half, pushing the margin to as many as 12.

 

The Quakers are led by freshman Alyssa Baron’s 15.5 points and Jess Knapp’s 7.8 rebounds per game.  Baron has been the leading scorer in 10 of the Quakers’ 13 contests this season.

 

Penn is coming off a 54-45 defeat at the hands of Virginia on Sunday.

 

Against common opponents this season, the Explorers have a 1-4 record, while the Quakers have gone 2-3.
