Seniors Shine On Swimming & Diving's Last Saturday Meet At Kirk Pool

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle swimming & diving seniors took part in their last Saturday meet at Kirk Pool, as the Explorer women defeated Loyola (MD), 197-100, while the men fell to the Greyhounds 152.5-147.5.

The Explorers honored seniors Holly Biro, Jessica Carbin, Aubrey Cefalo, Elizabeth Pike, Alex Stoddart, Kieran Edling, Dustin Gibb and MBA student Charlie Zettel in a pre-game ceremony.

Biro won the 50-free (24.68) and placed second in the 100-free (53.97).

Carbin won both the 100-back (59.25) and 200-back (2:09.84), then placed third in the 100-fly (1:02.31).

Cefalo swam a 2:15.37 in the 200-fly to finish second and then took fifth in the 100-fly (1:02.55).

Pike swam the 100-breast in (1:16.23), good for fifth-place, 200-breast in 2:45.23 to take sixth in the event and then swam in the Explorers’ fifth-place 200 medley relay.

Stoddart notched a trio of third-place finishes in the 100-back (1:00.37), 50-free (25.47) and 200-back (2:15.96).

Zettel took the 200-fly in 1:53.82, finished second in the 100-fly (51.64) and third in the 200-IM (1:58.44).  The Coatesville, Pa. native was also part of the winning 200 medley relay (1:35.07).

In the 200 medley relay, the La Salle women finished first (1:49.51) on swims by Stoddart, Jordan, Cefalo and Biro.  Elizabeth Jordan, Biro, Katie Snee and Adriana Correa would go on to win the 400-free relay in 340.38.

Other first-place finishes for the Explorer women include Emily Heath in the 1000-free (10:21.35) and 500-free (5:05.50), Jordan in the 200-free (1:55.83) and 100-free (53.72), Jessica Simunek in 100-breast (1:09.02) and 200-breast (2:28.49) and 100-fly (59.94) and Correa in the 200-fly (2:14.15).

The La Salle men’s other first-place finishes include Blase Szyszko in the 100-breast (58.98) and Austin Thomas in the 50-free (21.17) and 100-free (47.36).

On the diving board, Laurie McLaughlin won both the 1-meter (289.43) and 3-m (279.98) competitions.  Robert Freeling won the 1-m (277.88), while Jordan Baker took the 3-m (323.18).

The Explorers will have a quick turnaround, as they will face Penn at Kirk Pool on Tuesday evening at 5:00 p.m.
