La Salle freshman point guard Tyreek Duren has been named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for a league-best third time this season, the conference office announced today. Duren averaged 18.5 ppg. and five assists in two contests last week for the Explorers.
Duren is now tied with Dayton's Juwan Staten, who has also earned three A-10 Rookie of the Week citations this season.
The Philadelphia native scored a career-high 19 points on Wednesday versus Towson on 6-for-9 shooting from the floor. He dished six assists, against two turnovers, in 40 minutes of action. On Sunday vs. Binghamton, Duren had 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting and handed out four assists.
Duren shot 68.4percent (13-for-19) from the field and connected on all eight free throws in the two contests.
The rookie leads the Explorers in assists (65) and ranks third in the conference in the category. He is averaging 8.7 ppg. and has added a team-best 22 steals.
La Salle (7-7) is back in action on Wednesday when it opens the Atlantic 10 schedule by visiting George Washington at 7 PM.
