Koci Records Double-Double in Loss to Princeton

PRINCETON, NJ - Rookie Jess Koci recorded her second career double-double on Tuesday night, but the La Salle women's basketball team fell to a red-hot Princeton team, 94-51.

Koci (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) scored 12 points, including La Salle's first six points of the game and eight of the first 10, and pulled down 10 rebounds. Seven of those were on the offensive glass, where Koci has excelled this season. She entered the game ranked third in the Atlantic 10 in offensive rebounds.

Ashley Gale (Glenside, PA/Cheltenham) netted a game-high 23 points for the Explorers (4-10). She poured in 18 second-half points, including a perfect 9-for-9 showing at the free throw line. The national Division I steals leader also grabbed a team-high four thefts. Ebonee Jones (Odenton, MD/Arundel) was the third Explorer in double figures, adding 13 points.

Princeton (11-3) presented an all-around scoring attack, with five players in double figures. Addie Micir led the quintet with 17 points on five treys, including her 1,000th career point in the third minute of the game. Devona Allgood added 15 and Laura Johnson chipped in 12. Nicole Hung and Lauren Edwards each added 10.

The Tigers, coming off of a win at Wake Forest, picked up where they left off and raced out to an 18-8 lead by the 13:11 mark. Koci sank a layup a minute later, followed by five straight points from Jones to cut the Tigers' lead to three at 18-15. However, the Tigers responded with a 25-5 run to close out the half at 43-20 and put the game out of reach.

The Tigers continued to attack in the second half, pushing their lead to as many as 47 at 94-47 with 2:11 remaining en route to the final 94-51 score.

The Tigers shot 54.7 percent for the game (35-for-64), including 60 percent (18-for-30) in the second half, while limiting the Explorers to 28.6 percent for the game and just 15.8 percent (3-for-19) in 3-point range.

The Explorers closed out non-conference play and will open Atlantic 10 play on Saturday (1/8) at Fordham. Tip off is at 1:00 PM in the Bronx.
