La Salle Explorers (7-7, 0-0 A-10)

La Salle opens the conference season by visiting George Washington on Wednesday night in the nation's capital. The Explorers defeated Binghamton, 87-64, behind 18 points from reigning A-10 Rookie of the Week Tyreek Duren on Sunday.
Senior Jerrell Williams who is averaging 22.5 ppg. and 12.0 rpg. over his last three contests, is just 17 points away from being the 49th Explorer to reach 1,000 points. He leads the team in scoring at 16.0 ppg., good for ninth in the conference. Williams is second in the A-10 in offensive rebounding at 3.42 orpg.
Duren averaged 18.5 ppg. in two games to earn his league-best A-10 Rookie of the Week honor on Monday. He leads the team in assists per game (4.6, fourth in conference) and steals (1.6 spg.) and is scoring 8.7 ppg.
La Salle hasn't had many problems scoring the basketball this season. The Explorers are ranked 29th nationally in scoring average (79.1), 34th in field goal percentage (48.0%) and 34th in assists (16.1). La Salle is second in the A-10 in all three
categories.
George Washington Colonials (7-6, 0-0 A-10)
Conference: Atlantic 10
George Washington has won five of its last six games, including three in a row at home. Last time out, the Colonials defeated crosstown rival Howard, 85-50, on Sunday behind 16 points from Joseph Katuka. Nemanja Mikic had 15 points for Karl Hobbs' squad.
Tony Taylor leads the Colonials in scoring (12.6 ppg.) and assists (4.8 apg.). Dwayne Smith is the only other scorer in double figures at 10.1 ppg. GW is without sophomore Lasan Kromah, a preseason third team All-A-10 pick, who may miss the season with a foot injury.
The Series
George Washington holds a 17-11 lead in the series, but La Salle has won four of the last five. Dr. John Giannini owns the only two Explorer victories at the Smith Center.Center. This will be the third straight year the two teams meet twice (Feb. 19 at La Salle). Aaric Murray averaged 18.5 ppg. and 6.0 rpg. in two
games vs. GW last year.
