Recent La Salle graduate Jill Davis was honored at Monday's 107th annual Philadelphia Sportswriters Banquet, held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Cherry Hill, NJ. The women's lacrosse standout was recognized for being named the IWLCA National Scholar-Athlete of the Year and an Academic All-American among the many awards she received during her senior season.
Davis was honored as a scholar-athlete by six organizations in 2010. The Folsom, Pa. native became the first La Salle women's lacrosse player to be tabbed a CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American. She was also named A-10 Women's Lacrosse Student-Athlete of the Year in women's lacrosse, Philadelphia Inquirer All-Area Women's Lacrosse Performer of the Year and the La Salle University Scholar Athlete of the Year.
The Ridley High School graduate received one of two national scholar-athlete of the year awards for La Salle, making the university the only one in the nation with two national scholar-athletes of the year. She was also one of a conference-best four Atlantic 10 Student-Athletes of the Year.
Davis received a degree in Elementary Education from La Salle in May, graduating with a 4.0 grade point average.
After adding 40 goals and 14 assists during her senior campaign, Davis is currently ranked sixth all-time in career goals scored and tied for fifth all-time in career points at La Salle. She earned first team All-Atlantic 10 honors as well.
Davis helped the Explorers to a program-best No. 2 seed in the 2010 Atlantic 10 tournament, as well as a program-best nine wins, including five conference victories.
