Senior women's basketball player Ashley Gale has been named the GoExplorers.com Athlete of the Month for January, as selected by the La Salle Office of Athletic Communications.
During the Explorers' nine games in January, Gale averaged 21.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game and shot .349 from the field. Entering the month, the senior was averaging 15.1 points per contest.
Gale set a career-high 31 points during La Salle's loss to Lehigh on January 2nd. During that same contest, she also posted six steals, the most by an Explorer in three seasons.
Against George Washington (1/29), Gale broke the La Salle record for single-season three-point attempts. She notched nine attempts during the contest to put give her 184, which bested the previous record of 175 set by Meghan Wilkinson during the 2003-04 season.
In January the Cheltenham, Pa. native moved up in several other statistical categories in the La Salle record books. She ended the month fourth all-time at the school in career three-point attempts (497), fifth in career three pointers made (161) and second in single-season treys made (67), eighth in career blocks (61) and tied for tenth in career steals (63).
