Nine Explorers Move On To Night Swims; Thomas Breaks 29 Year-Old School Record

BUFFALO, N.Y. -

Austin Thomas broke a 29 year-old school record and qualified in the top position in the 50-free, becoming one of nine Explorers who will return to the pool this evening. 

Thomas’ 20.42 smashed school record in the 50-free by nearly half a second.  He topped Paul Jarvis’s 20.73 time from 1982.

Holly Biro also set a new school record for the Explorers.  She broke her own record in the 50-free, swimming a 23.45 and besting her pervious mark of 23.68 from 2009.  Biro qualified fourth overall in the event.

Emily Heath’s 4:57.51 in the 500-free was the fifth best time.

Charlie Zettel will swim in the 200 IM finals after posting a 1:53.96, good for eighth in the prelims.

Several Explorers will also swim in the ‘B’ finals of their respective events.

Zach Anderson missed qualifying for the 500-free finals by .13 of a second, finishing with the ninth best time in the preliminaries (4:39.43).  Also joining him will be Greg Fischer, who swam a 13th-best 4:41.67.

Tom Lawrie will swim in the 200 IM B final after finishing 15th overall (1:55.79) in the event. 

Kyle Goan moved on to the 50-free B finals after finishing 15th overall (21.31).

Katie Snee posted the 15th fastest 50-free time (24.00) to move on to the evening competition.
