During the Saturday morning preliminaries of the 2011 Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Championships six La Salle swimmers qualified for event finals, while eight qualified for consolation finals, making it a total of 16 Explorers retuning to the pool this evening.
The La Salle men currently sit third in the standings, while the women are fourth. Competition will resume at 6:30 p.m. this evening.
In the 100-free, Holly Biro broke the school record she set last year (51.64) by clocking in at 51.05, good for the second-best time on the day.
In the same event, Elizabeth Jordan was third (51.59).
Jessica Simunek clocked the fifth-best time in the 200-breast (2:20.73). Teammates Emily Heath (12th; 2:25.73) and Olivia Armater (15th; 2:27.83) will move on to the consolation finals in the event.
Adriana Correa had the ninth-best time in the 200-fly (2:08.38) to qualify for the consolation finals in that event.
Jessica Carbin posted the 15th-best time (2:07.85) in the 200-back
Charlie Zettel highlighted the men’s qualifiers by posting the top time in the 200-fly (1:50.24), swimming nearly a second faster than the second-place finisher.
Blase Szyszko was also a top-two qualifier, posting a 2:04.24 in the 200-breast, good for second-best. Eric Patenaude swam the 13th-fastest time in the event (2:09.32).
Austin Thomas clocked the 4th-best time in the 100-free (45.86).
In the 200-fly, Robby Gravel notched the 11th-best time (1:54.08), while teammates Greg Fischer (1:54.15) and Sean McCall (1:56.12) were 12th and 15th, respectively.
Edward Carnes posted the 10th-best time in the 200-back (1:52.61), while Tom Lawrie was 12th (1:53.33).
In the men’s 3-meter diving competition, Jordan Baker finished 10th (252.10), Tyler Rieker 12th (216.30), Robert Freeling 14th (185.20) and Matt Nickerson 15th (181.15)
