NEW YORK, NY - With less than two weeks remaining before the ECAC/IC4A Championships, the La Salle indoor track team continued its preparation for the postseason over the weekend and competed in the Armory Collegiate Challenge held at the Armory Track in New York City.
"This is one of those events where we are getting ready for what's to come," said head coach Charles Torpey. "We are trying to get ourselves rested and ready to go for the next step."
The meet was highlighted by junior Caitlin Storbeck who recorded the top mark in the 3k race with a time of 9:55.90. Storbeck had already posted ECAC qualifying times in the 1k and mile events earlier this season and had not run in the 3k event in over one year.
"We had a lot of guys running different events and we didn't get very emotionally attached but it was a good learning experience for us," Torpey added.
Also on the women's side, juniors Stephanie Bearish and Wendy Hutchinson posted strong times in the mile and finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Bearish's time of 5:05.20 is seven seconds off her top pace this season of 4:58.30, which is an ECAC qualifying mark.
On the men's side, sophomore Paul Reilly posted a personal-best time of 4:14.27, good enough for fourth place overall in the mile run. Reilly's effort was also good enough to qualify for the IC4A standard.
The indoor track team will wrap up the regular season next weekend at the George Mason Last Chance Invitational in Fairfax, VA before heading to the ECAC/IC4A Championships March 5-6 in Boston.
