Steve Weingarten Named First Team Academic All-District

PHILADELPHIA - La Salle senior men's basketball player Steve Weingarten has been named to the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District II First Team, it was announced today. This marks the second straight season that Weingarten has earned the honor. He is the only player from the Atlantic 10 Conference to receive Academic All-District recognition this season.

As a member of the first team, Weingarten will receive consideration for Academic All-America honors.

Weingarten has appeared in all 23 games this season for the Explorers, starting two. He is averaging 4.7 points and 3.0 rebounds per game while shooting .519 from the floor.

Last season, the Baltimore, MD native averaged 5.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. In the final eight games of the season, he averaged 10.1 points and 8.0 rebounds per game including an 18-point, 17-rebound performance versus St. Bonaventure.

Weingarten arrived at La Salle as a walk-on in 2007 after transferring from Division III Connecticut College. Head coach Dr. John Giannini calls Weingarten his favorite story of his coaching career.

He owns a 3.86 grade point average as a history and American studies major.

The Explorers are back in action on Saturday when they take on Dayton at 6 PM at Gola Arena. The game will be broadcast nationally on CBS College Sports.
