Florida Trip Ends With 4-0 Loss To UConn

March 13, 2011

Box Score

TAMPA, Fla.- The Connecticut Huskies put up two runs in both the second and fifth frames and held La Salle Softball scoreless through seven innings to hand the Explorers a 4-0 losing decision on the final day of the Under Armour Showcase at the University of South Florida Sunday morning.

Senior Ali Shepherd doubled in the first inning in Sunday's game against Connecticut.

La Salle looked to get on the board early when it loaded the bases with only one out in the first inning. Junior Heather Brabazon got the only hit for the Explorers when she led off the inning with a free pass before senior Ali Shepherd slapped a double into left field and senior DJ Guinn got walked.

UConn's Kiki Saverino tossed two of her nine strikeouts to the next two batters to end the Explorers' threat.

The Huskies got on the board in the second inning on Kathleen Brenneman's two-out RBI double to score Kim Silva. UConn extended its lead to a two-run advantage when Jennifer Ward singled to bring in Silva.

In the fifth inning, a leadoff triple by UConn's Brittany Duclos was the hightlight of another two-run putout for the Huskies.

The Explorers (2-13) will pick up on their current 17-game road swing when they travel to St. Louis, MO to open Atlantic 10 Conference play against the Saint Louis Bilikens on Friday at 6:30 PM.
