PHILADELPHIA - Sophomore Melanie Sarcinello paced the Explorers with 11 goals in their two victories on the week to earn Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week, as well as La Salle's Student-Athlete of the Week honors.
The awards were announced today by the A-10 Conference and the La Salle Office of Athletic Communications, respectively.
Sarcinello reeled off eight goals during La Salle's 14-12 overtime victory against Davidson on Friday. Her eighth goal of the game, an unassisted score, came with 3:27 remaining in the overtime period and broke a 12-12 tie.
In La Salle's other game against Presbyterian, a 9-7 win, Sarcinello added a hat trick and sunk the game-winner off a free position shot with 17:20 remaining in the second half.
Sarcinello scored 47 percent of the Explorers' goals last week. She currently sits tied for 23rd in Division I in goals per game on the season with 3.00.
La Salle will take the field at McCarthy stadium on Wednesday to face Monmouth. The contest will begin at 7:00 p.m.
