La Salle Crew got its feet wet today with a handful of races as the team opened the spring 2011 season.  La Salle took on city rivals Villanova and Drexel today as the Men's Freshman 8 took second place. 

The Men's Freshman 8 topped Villanova (6:40.21) by over 30 seconds with a time of 6:01.33 but came in behind Drexel who clocked in at 5:53.11. 

Other races of the day included Men's and Womens Varsity 8, Women's Freshman 8 and Men's and Womens Varsity 4.

The Men's Varsity 8 took third, ahead of Villanova (6:04.24), with a time of 5:53.35 but was behind Drexel's A boat, which placed first with a time of 5:43.33.  Also, the Women's Varsity 8 posted a time of 6:53.35, placing them in third behind first place Drexel (6:36.99).

The Women's Freshman 8 clocked in at 6:58.50.  The time placed them in third behind first place Villanova with a time of 6:43.28.

The Men's Varsity 4 finished ten seconds behind first place Villanova (6:40.76), the Explorers stopped the clock at 6:50.18.  The Women's Varsity 4 took fourth place with a time of 7:42.43 behind Villanova's first place A boat with a time of 7:12.1.

La Salle Rowing will be back on the Schuylkill River next weekend, March 26, for the Murphy Cup.
