PHILADELPHIA - After playing nine straight home games, the Explorers hit the road, all be it a short one, on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Meiklejohn Stadium to take on Penn at 3 p.m.
La Salle went 7-2 during the homestand including a victory over Villanova, Fordham and a clean four-game sweep of the Big 5 Baseball Bash against the likes of Manhattan, Saint Peter's and New York Tech.
The Explorers (13-10, 1-2) had their nine-game winning streak snapped on Saturday in the middle game of a three-game set against Fordham. La Salle's offense was held down in the rubber match on Sunday as Fordham won the series. La Salle will be looking to start a new winning streak on Tuesday against the Quakers.
Last season the Explorers only played one game against Penn, falling 11-7 at Meiklejohn Stadium back on April 14, 2010.
This season's game will serve as the first round of the annual Liberty Bell Classic, with the winner to meet the winner of Villanova/Lafayette on April 5.
RHP Shane Petrellis (2-1, 1.73) will get the start on the mound fo the Explorers. Petrellis has the lowest ERA among starting pitchers and has allowed only five earned runs in 26 innings pitched so far this season.
For Penn, LHP Chris McNulty (1-1, 3.47) will get the nod on the hill.
The Quakers (8-9) are coming off a two-game sweep of Lafayette over the weekend. McNulty pitched in game two of the doubleheader against the Leopards and allowed two runs off two hits in just one inning of work.
