PHILADELPHIA- The Explorers host their first Atlantic 10 Conference doubleheader of the season on Saturday when the Charlotte 49ers come into town.
The 49ers are coming to Philadelphia after having a week off. In their last time out, the 49ers split a doubleheader at home with the Saint Louis Billikens.
La Salle (2-18, 0-4) is fresh off its first home game of the season. On Wednesday, the Explorers dropped a 6-0 decision to the Penn Qukaers.
Charlotte (18-15, 4-2) senior catcher Tenya Tucker is the team's leading hitter with a .412 batting average, ranking her second in the conference. Briana Gwaltney is ranked first in the Atlantic 10 with eight home rubns, while posting a .326 batting average.
Senior Ali Shepherd is La Salle’s leading hitter with a .262 batting aveage. Shepherd also leads the
team with 17 hits, including a La Salle-best three doubles and 65 at-bats.
La Salle senior pitcher DJ Guinn went five innings of work in her last outing for the the third straight game. Guinn has compiled 14 strikeouts and has walked just three batters. In Atlantic 10 starts Guinn has managed to keep runs off the board. In her first start against Saint Louis and last week at St. Bonaventure, Guinn allowed two runs or less.
Charlotte is playing the first of two straight weekends in Philadelphia. Saturday it will take on the Explorers before returning to North Carolina to take on N.C. State in Raleigh for a twin-bill, just before heading back to City of Brotherly Love for four more A-10 games when it faces Saint Joseph’s on Friday and Saturday and then Temple on Sunday for a doubleheader.
Following Saturday's two-game set with the 49ers, La Salle will have two midweek road games when it travels to Monmouth on Tuesday and then Villanova on Thursday. The Explorers resume A-10 play next Sunday in the Bronx, NY against Fordham. La Salle returns to West Field Tuesday, April 12 when it hosts Drexel at 3 PM.
