Women's Freshman Eight Lead Way At Knecht Cup

The Women's Freshman Eight finished fifth in the grand final today to lead the Explorers at the Knecht Cup.

The women finished third in their heat on Saturday with a time of 7:47.68, ahead of UMass, Colgate and Pittsburgh. The time qualified the boat for semi-finals where they posted a third place finish at 7:27.04, good enough to send them to the grand final today. The boat had a strong finish with a time of 7:23.16 which pushed them past North Carolina. First place went to Wisconsin Lwt.

Other highlights include a fourth place petite final finish by the Men's Freshman Eight. The boat came in first in their heat on Saturday with a time of 6:34.82, which advanced them to the semi-finals. They took a fifth place finish in semis with a time of 6:33.68. The time qualified them for the petite final today where they posted a time of 6:35.86.

Also, the Women's Varsity Four advanced from their heat on Saturday after posting a time of 9:00.55. The boat finished third ahead of Marist, Iona and Hofstra. In the semi-final the boat finished sixth with a time of 9:14.22, which qualified them for the third finals today where they took sixth with a time of 8:51.46.

The Men's Varsity Eight crossed the line with a time of 6:27.58 for a fourth place finish in their heat on Saturday. The time put them ahead of Washington College and Lehigh and sent them to the third level final. The boat finished with a time of 6:18.78 which placed them in third ahead of Washington College, Boston College and UMass.

Results from Saturday include the Men's Varsity Four and Women's Varsity Eight. The Four finished their heat with a time of 8:05.46, ahead of Old Dominion. The Eight took sixth with a time of 7:52.51.

The Explorer rowers return to action next Saturday (4/16) when the women head to the Atlantic 10 Championship while the men head to the Kerr Cup.
