Game 2
PHILADELPHIA- Temple senior pitcher Kristen Marris went the full distance and tossed shutouts in both ends of Friday's doubleheader. Marris held the Explorers to three hits through both ballgames, helping the Owls take 7-0 and 5-0 decisions in the twinbill at West Campus Field on Friday.
Sophomore Liz Reed found a way to solve Marris in both of Friday afternoon's games. With a single in each contest, Reed continues to be La Salle's most consistent hitter as of late. In 10 of her last 11 games, Reed has hit her way on base.
In game one, senior DJ Guinn pitched her second straight complete game. Like her start earlier in the week against Drexel, Guinn opened the game by allowing a walk. From there Guinn had her outing under control. Before Temple began a rally that led to it exploding for five runs, inlcuding a grand slam by freshman Stephanie Pasquale in the fifth inning, Guinn went through a span in which she retired 10 of 11 batters. Guinn finished her complete game with seven strikeouts.
Guinn was able to manufacture offense off her counterpart in the second game when she knocked a hit off Marris in the seventh inning.
In Friday's first game freshman Danielle Cullen made the first start of her La Salle career.
Her classmate Megan Hodgson was patient against Marris, helping her to collect two walks on the afternoon.
La Salle will have a day off before resuming play against the Saint Joseph's Hawks at West Campus Field on Sunday. The Explorers and Hawks will begin a doubleheader at Noon. La Salle will be wrapping up a five-game homestand and play against Philadelphia-based schools.
