POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - La Salle Softball takes a break from its longest home swing of the season to take on the Marist Red Foxes at Softball Park in Gartland Park on Wednesday afternoon.
In last season's battle, the Explorers took both ends of a doubleheader at West Campus Field, by counts of 11-6 and 10-4.
The Red Foxes enter the twin bill with the Explorers after having a 13-game winning streak snapped by the Manhattan Jaspers on Sunday.
Nicole DiVirgillo is batting .362 with 46 hits, helping her lead Marist's offense this season, while Emily Osterhaus has completed 15 games from the pitcher's circle, helping her gather a 10-6 record with a 3.35 ERA this season. Paige Lewis has also been effetive for Marist this season. In 22 appearances, she has won a team-best 12 games and collected 14 complete games.
Sophomore Liz Reed is batting .500 in her last three ballgames for the Explorers. After having a six-game hitting streak halted against Fordham on April 10, Reed has already put together a new hitting streak, as she has now hit in each of her last four games and in 10 of her last 11 outings.
La Salle freshman Kati Cooper and Marist sophomore Christina Lausch will play against each other after playing their high school softball together at Hempfield High School in Lancaster, PA.
Wednesday's games between La Salle and Marist is the last set of road non-conference games for the Explorers.
The first pitch between the Explorers and Red Foxes is scheduled for 2:30 PM.
