Reed Homers; Explorers Can't Stop Attacks By Red Foxes

April 20, 2011

Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY- In their final non-conference road affair of the 2011 season, the La Salle Explorers dropped both decisions of Wednesday afternoon's doubleheader to the Marist Red Foxes. Marist used only six innings to defeat the Explorers in both contests, winning by counts of 9-0 and 9-1 at the Softball Park at Gartland Athletic Field.

Offense was hard to come by in the commencing game for the Explorers in Wednesday's twin bill. Senior DJ Guinn notched La Salle's lone hit of the ballgame. Guinn had a base hit in each half of the two-game set, along with a walk in game two.

Sophomore Liz Reed went yard in Wednesday's second game against Marist.

Though the Explorers were able to gather just one run in the back end of the doubleheader, sophomore Liz Reed got the Explorers on the board with her first home run of the season. Reed took a 3-1 pitch off Paige Lewis straight away into center field and over the fence.

Reed's second-longest hitting streak of the season was snapped earlier in the day, as she went 0-for-2 against Emily Osterhaus in the opening game. Reed took a free pass on a walk to lead off the game, helping her to reach base safely for the fifth consecutive game. In the second game of the two-game set, Reed went 2-for-2 off of Lewis. After a 2-for-4 afternoon with a walk, Reed has reached base in 13 of her last 14 games.

In the ensuing rematch, the Explorers managed to put the ball in play six times off of Lewis.

The Explorers generated the majority of their offense in the final two innings of game two, as they knocked four hits off of Lewis. Following Reed's home run, sophomore Heather Brabazon smacked a ball through the right side to earn herself a double. La Salle continued to get hits in the sixth when senior Laura Beth McCreesh and junior Tristan Musho had back-to-back hits after Guinn's walk, which helped load the bases.

La Salle (2-29, 0-10) will have little time for turnaround, as it is back in action on Thursday at West Campus Field for an Atlantic 10 Conference dual when the Dayton Flyers move into campus for a pair of games beginning at 3 PM.
